Courmayeur has its own character as a ski resort. This traditional Italian is enveloped with spectacular scenery. It is situated at the foot of the Italian side of Mont Blanc. Meanwhile, the resort has gained popularity with clientele in northern Italy and various visitors from worldwide. It has varied mountain slopes excellent for all skiers’ levels, although experts will love the heliskiing and off-piste opportunities.

What is a bonus to this resort’s trip is the opportunity to venture further to Chamonix, with the numerous mountain restaurants where you can indulge in authentic cuisine of Italy. The new Skyway Monte Bianco cable car drops visitors from Courmayeur to Chamonix quicker and with spectacular views.

The resort allows visitors to see the spectacular backdrop above the Val Veny (southwest), facing the Mont-Blanc.

Courmayeur is comprised of almost 20 lifts and 30 different runs. The off-piste in the area gives a glimpse of Mont Blanc’s excellent vertical and incredible views. The resort’s altitude goes from town level at 1224 m, reaching 2755 m at the top of the Cresta Arp lift.

OFF THE MOUNTAIN

You can browse the plethora of shops and boutiques along Courmayeur’s cobbled streets to enjoying a lively café and bar culture at the après-ski time; this is a charming and exciting place to explore any time of the day.

THINGS TO DO IN SUMMER

Ride the Skyway Monte Bianco Cable Car. This could be the best treat you can give yourself with mesmerizing views in the Alps, from Courmayeur up to Punta Helbronner at 3,466m (11,371ft).

You seem to touch the sky on the terrace surrounded by the snow-capped peaks. Under good weather conditions, you can enjoy lunch with one of the best alpine panoramas in Europe.

At the Pavillion is the first stop of the cable car, where you can enjoy a botanical garden. You can also find the Saussurea Alpine Gardens and admire more than 900 species from mountains worldwide. The garden’s name was named after Horace Benedict de Saussure, a scientist and alpine explorer born in Geneva at the end of the 18th century.

BEST TIME TO VISIT COURMAYEUR

June through August is the Summer season in the resort. The mid-year months have comfortably cool weather with high yet comfortable temperatures. These months have the most precipitation with 9 to 10 days per month. Most tourists visit in June – August, the busiest season for Courmayeur, so there is an expected increase in some lodging and other accommodations costs.

September through November is the Fall season at Courmayeur. Daily temperature ranges from 68.2°F (20.1°C) and 37.7°F (3.2°C); you will feel chilly given the humidity and wind. Rains or snows occur at a significant amount: 3 to 7 days in a month. Not many people visit the place, and accommodations are at the lowest rates, and the resort is very silent and peaceful.

December through February are the winter months. This time of the year has the coldest weather in the resort with an average high temperature between 49.9°F (9.9°C) and 32.6°F (0.3°C). The average rain or snow is 6 to 11 times per month. These times of year are slow with tourists.
