Guide to Mountain Biking

Mountain biking has long been a pleasant adventure for many people in the United States. There are many scenic areas where you can enjoy mountain biking. One of the most popular areas is near the town of Ashville, North Carolina. The town itself is nestled between the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains. Or in the Pisgah Mountains. You will enjoy riding your bike past waterfalls and through beautiful meadows. There are many mountain trails that you can take which offer pleasant views. Just look around for any hill big enough to give mountain biking a try.

Another great destination is East Burke, VT where you will find many exciting trails to follow. The town is located between Burlington and Montreal. The little town has fantastic mountain trails known as the Kingdom Trails, which provides a mountain bike trail that is over one hundred miles long which is just right for non-motorized bikes. It’s also an excellent mountain biking trail for the beginner. Therefore, we recommend the beginners to go on this trail rather than a difficult one. This mountain biking experience appeals the rider with beautiful landscapes along with well-kept terrain.

The thrill seeker who likes high-intensity mountain biking will want to go to Fruita, Colorado. There are hundreds of miles of trails that offer thrills for the experienced mountain biking expert. You can ride your bike along the Book Cliffs area to see the basin in Grand Valley. You may also like to venture along the steep climbs and descents that are 2,000 vertical feet above the basin. This trail was designated an International Mountain Bicycling Association Epic trail. It has something for everyone to learn and enjoy – definitely worth checking out. If you are a real expert, you can take part in the various competitions too which are held in the area all year round.

There are different other spots in the US which are specially made for the mountain bike riding. The trail near Jalama Beach is an excellent spot for the novice and beginners because the road is paved and properly made. The trail is smooth and not rocky which makes it easier for the beginners. You can always enjoy a spectacular view of the beach and hear the sound of the sea on your way.

The Big Rock trail is another great one for the experts (as it says by the name). It is located near the DuPont Recreational Forest. It is a rocky one and has a few areas too easy whereas few areas are too severe. It gives a beautiful view of the greenery around as well. Beside it stands the Cedar Rock Trail too which is about 2.3 miles in the distance and 450 feet in elevation. One has to be properly prepared before they go for the Cedar Rock Trail or the Big Rock Trail.

Get a bicycle. You will certainly not regret it, if you live. – Mark Twain

Never use your face as a brake pad. – Jake Watson

Life is like riding a bicycle: you don’t fall off unless you stop pedaling. Claude Pepper

Plan Accordingly

Mountain biking is perhaps one of the most exciting and adventurous activities that a person can have in extreme sports. It is up to the individual to stay fit and healthy. When you are planning on a mountain biking excursion, you should make sure that you are physically fit. It is a good idea to work out in your local gym and exercise daily.

You should make sure that you have regular physicals from your doctor to avoid the possibility of heart attacks or other health problems. This is especially true if you’re doing high-intensity trails that take great endurance. Pay proper attention to your physical health and focus on gaining more stamina because it matters the most when it comes to mountain bike riding.

Getting a good mountain bike is necessary for a great ride. Make sure you are not compromising on the quality for a mountain bike. Always check tire air pressure before you go for a ride as the mountains are rocky and may result in a flat tire if the air pressure is not sufficient enough. Keep a headlight installed for the night timings. Check the brake pads accordingly each time before you go for a ride to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.

The area that you decide to go mountain biking will determine some of the equipment that you will need to take along with you. Remember you do not have room to carry very many items with you, but it is always best to take necessary gear. You will need water, a small first aid kit and, if you are unfamiliar with the area, take along a map or a GPS tracker to prevent you from getting lost.

Keep in mind that you should have all the necessary equipment with you before starting a bike ride. This includes a helmet, a knee cover, proper shoes, and a backpack. All these tools are essential for the safety of the rider. Keep some food and necessary medication in your backpack for emergency purposes. We recommend that you don’t go on a mountain bike trail alone. Always have at least one other person with you.

If you are a beginner, don’t choose a rocky area in the start or you will have an awful first ride. If you are a beginner and you go on a rocky trail, you might not be able to maintain balance properly and may crash or injure yourself. It is better to practice before you go for a tough ride. In case you are an expert, challenge yourself with the even more difficult trails each time. Go for the steeper rides which are not even smooth so that you can test yourself to the maximum limits.
